Notification e-mails from forum are delayed by many hours

I have noticed that the e-mail notifications from the forum are delayed by at least 6-8 hours some times more. This is very frustrating and should be dealt with.

Which email service is being used or is there a mail server set up to send mails?

In either case this needs to be looked into urgently.

I have noticed the same thing, it gets very confusing some times so I have stopped relying on e-mail notifications.

Will have to change the e-mail provider soon.

I asked in PM and was told Elastic mail is being used. Elastic mail is known for delays. I would suggest Zoho or the best thing out there Google.

Elastic mail need to go that is for sure.

I some times get notifications from 2-3 days ago. People should get instant notifications. Even a 10-15 mins delay wouldn't be a problem but when it gets delayed by a day or two that is a bit of a problem.

Sorry about the e-mail delay problem, will speak to elastic mail customer support today and if this does not get resolved within a day or two then will ask to change mail provider to something else that will work better.

The benefit with elastic mail is that it is very economical. Email's per day is already hitting 500-600 per day and it will only go up as time passes so we need something that supports such volumes. My estimate is this volume will double every two weeks as forum gets popular which it will thanks to our excellent astrologers whose predictions hit the nail in the head every time so need to prepare for the incoming hoards.

Thanks everyone for the heads up, will get this sorted asap.

I am getting yesterday's e-mail notifications today , one after the other. I am sure there is something seriously wrong with the e-mail setup.

I have noticed that too. Stopped relying upon mail notifications and just check the site instead.

I will get the mail service change to something more suited to our needs.

Be assured it will be crisp and instant once switch has been made. I am just trying to see if something can be done to sort elastic mail itself as we already have it set up.

Sorry about the ongoing trouble.

Many thanks for offering to help. Setting it up is not a problem really because I have many students who are experienced server admins and know how to do it and are eager to helps too.

I am just looking at ways to make the current setup work instead of just changing it because elastic mail would turn out to be very economical as compared to other services.

Just so everyone knows, this e-mail problem has now been resolved.

We have changed our e-mail provider now and I have tested by sending a few e-mail and they are getting delivered instantly.

If anyone is still facing a problem please let me know by replying here and I will get it looked into.

Those e-mails that are stuck in the system are getting pushed one by one that is the reason you are getting older emails from the last 2-3 days now as the system keeps trying to send the failed ones.

This will stop within an hour or two and fresh e-mails will come in as normal.

If anyone is still facing any problem with e-mail's please let me know.

Just out of curiosity, which e-mail service are we using now?

Also, wouldn't it be easier to setup our own mail server on the VPS instead of using third party e-mail?

We earlier had elastic email and now we have set up AWS SES.

Setting up own email server is going to become one more thing to look after. Also setting up own mail might have delivery problems expecially mails going into people's spam folder instead of inbox besides other things.

AWS SES delivery success is considered good so that is why we got that also the price is nominal.

E-mails from the backlog are all done now as I am only getting new reply notifications and they are coming on time, nearly instantly as and when someone replies in my watched threads.
Also my own e-mail notifications are all landing in my inbox.
