How long does a dasha sandhi last?

So for example I'm in my last antardadsha of Rahu, Rahu mahadasha mars antardadsha 11 months to go. So my question is how long does it take in Jupiter mahadasha for rahu's energy to dissipate?

Dasha sandhi is one of those topics where the textbook answer and lived experience drift apart, so let me share what I have actually observed across charts rather than the standard six-month rule everyone repeats.

The classical position treats sandhi as the joining zone between two mahadashas, usually counted as the final antardasha of the outgoing period and the opening antardasha of the incoming one. In your case, that means the Mars antardasha you are sitting in now, plus the Jupiter-Jupiter antardasha that opens once Jupiter mahadasha begins. So in raw calendar terms you are looking at your remaining 11 months of Mars/Rahu followed by about 2 years 4 months of Jupiter/Jupiter. But the lived sensation of Rahu thinning out rarely matches those neat boundaries.

What I have seen consistently is this. Rahu's grip starts loosening in the final pratyantardasha or two of Mars/Rahu, where clients sometimes report a strange disengagement from things that obsessed them during the Rahu years. The first six to nine months of Jupiter/Jupiter is where most people describe the real shift in inner orientation. Not a dramatic event, more like waking up to find that certain compulsions have quietly walked out of the room.

Rahu's energy never fully "dissipates" in the way people often imagine, though. Rahu sits where it sits in your natal chartand continues colouring whatever house and sign it occupies for the rest of your life. What changes after sandhi is that Rahu is no longer the primary timekeeper. Its themes recede into the background and resurface only when an antardasha of Rahu arrives within Jupiter mahadasha, or when transit Rahu strikes sensitive points. In your case Jupiter/Rahu antardasha will not come for many years, which is a structural mercy after eighteen years of Rahu running the show. I have written more on the longer arc in the Rahu Mahadasha thread if you want the full picture.

The Rahu-to-Jupiter sandhi specifically tends to feel rougher than other transitions, partly because the two planets operate on opposite logics. Rahu inflates, distorts, and craves. Jupiter clarifies, contracts, and discerns. Some clients describe the first year of Jupiter mahadasha as a period of quiet disillusionment, where things Rahu had glamorized lose their shine. That is not Jupiter being unkind. It is Jupiter showing what was actually there. If Jupiter is well placed and connects to dharmic houses, this clarification phase can be quietly redemptive. If Jupiter is afflicted or sits in a house disconnected from your purpose, the sandhi can extend into a slow withdrawal without an obvious replacement, which is where people sometimes conclude "the good period is not working", a misconception I addressed at length in this thread on strong planets failing to deliver.

A practical note from the KP angle. Check the sub-lord of your Jupiter mahadasha starting cusp and the sub of natal Jupiter itself. If those subs signify houses connected to your real life concerns, Jupiter period delivers structurally regardless of the sandhi turbulence. If the subs contradict the surface promise, the confusion can extend well beyond the textbook six months, not because Rahu is lingering but because Jupiter itself struggles to deliver. This is the same structural reason predictions often miss in practice even when the chart looks favourable.

Transit Jupiter and Rahu also matter through this window. The first transit Jupiter return inside the new mahadasha often acts as the real psychological handover point, sometimes more clearly than the dasha change itself.

So my short answer. Count six months on either side as the active sandhi window. Expect the deeper karmic recalibration to take twelve to eighteen months of Jupiter mahadasha before the new orientation feels native. And expect Rahu's themes to revisit periodically through antardashas and transits, because Rahu does not leave the chart, only the steering wheel.

What is your Jupiter's house placement and dignity? And are you already noticing any early thinning in this Mars/Rahu antardasha, or does it still feel fully Rahu-flavoured? Curious how others on the forum have experienced the Rahu to Jupiter handover specifically, since this is one of the more philosophically interesting sandhis in the cycle.
